Kyo watched as Roxanna slumped down onto her knees below him, it looked like her stubbornness was finally beginning to catch up with her at last. How much longer was she going to be able to push herself without causing grievous injury, or worse yet before she made a deadly mistake due to fatigue? Couldn't be long now the way she was moving, or not moving rather... it was time for him to step up and lend a hand, whether she wanted it or not.

Gently pushing off from his perch, he sent himself drifting into the engine room, fumbling out his emergency light as he went and turning to look back at his would-be partner, "You take a minute to catch your breath, I'll get the search started in the meantime. You should be able to keep a more then decent eye on me from there so there's no need to get all twitchy again, 'kay?" He tried to sound as disarming and sincere as he could, which of course meant that it was going to horribly backfire like everything else he'd tried with this girl. She just seemed determined to see him in the worst possible light after all.

Making his way through the darkened compartment he noted several remains floating about, no doubt all that was left of the crew in the wake of whatever attack had marooned this ship here. Muttering a quiet prayer to himself for the departed as he passed, he tried to keep from tossing his cookies as he moved his light around the cavernous room. This was the part he always hated about boarding wrecks, one never got used to the level of carnage they were likely to find in situations like this, and if they did... well then they just weren't normal.

Calling back on his helmet commlink again he said, "Ya might not wanna come back here, it's pretty nasty. I haven't made it back to the life support systems yet, but if the rest of this place is any indication then our chances are 'bout 50-50."

Roxanna sagged in place trying not to think too much, not that it would happen. He was powerless to do anything right now to try and stop the man. For all she knew he was waiting in the darkness to attack her, she didn't and wouldn't trust him. She knew that she was going to have to go in there though, whatever happened, it wasn't possible without doing so. Even still, he had it wrong. Life support unlike just about everything else on the ship was decentralised. Every deck had a sub station, there would be almost nothing other than monitoring down here, without power there wasn't anything to monitor. That was what needed to come back first, if things here would be of any use. So power, she had to hope there were batteries with unspent electrons in them still, else it would be a matter of just wondering around the ship until they died or found what they were looking for. But how could they close the doors fast enough without power? Unless she had a few hundred lemons or a battery of her own it wasn't possible.

The now very frail looking girl heard him but didn't really understand. It wasn't in plain English and at the best of times it might well of been lost on here. Scare, lonely, fatigued and with a head wound, Roxanna didn't stand a chance. Staggering to her feet she started to make her way inside, the darkness her biggest enemy right now. A gloved hand reached down to her belt and pulled out a flare, silver tube about three inches long. Slowly in both hands she pulled on the end and cracked the main case to the side. Then gently tossed it towards the ceiling. There was a pause for a few seconds as it started to react, still as a statue Roxanna waited for the light to appear. Very bright there was a blast, pure white light that illuminated the entire room. It would have been better for everyone if she hadn't.

Perfectly persevered from time of death, several bodies floated around the room. Mottled and burnt flesh covered most of them, some entirely, making them look like cinders. Clothing and flesh had fused together from the heat in grotesque forms, causing jarring convolutions in Roxanna's throat. The floors were charred, completely black, but not all of them were burned. As she saw them it was worse really. They still had faces that could be described as faces. A young man pinned against the bulkhead by a large piece of shrapnel, a look of complete horror on his pale face that mirrored her own. Death was messy, it wasn't just bodies or even the ash of bodies. Crimson blood floated in droplet clouds, lymph joined it with its sickly yellow, even urine floated around the space. For a few seconds she just stood, unable to stop looking. The flaked a crisped flesh at counterpoint to the moist bodily clouds, something that might have been an intestine hanging out. For someone who had never seen more than a dead bird for real, it was all to much. All this was too much.

The first stricken reaction wasn't even remotely rational. Hands groped, clenched at her helmet, she wanted to pull it off, before. It was the last moment that her brain stopped it, finally reacting. The back of her throat burned, all she could do was grit her teeth so hard her gums started to ooze. It felt like everything was burning, she could smell it the death, the burn flesh, blood and vomit. It sat in her mouth until she had enough strength to force it back down, again she fell to her knees. Her body clenched tight, arms to her chest and pulling on each other, bottom pressed hard against her heels. Eyes closed and from her mouth nothing but a soft, feeble sobbing whimper over the radio. This was too much, Roxanna was on the verge of shutting down completely now.

Momentarily frozen as Roxanna's flare revealed the gory nature of the compartment in all it's glory, Kyo had to once again fight back the urge to vomit as he killed his light. It was slightly easier for him then it had been for her since he had been more prepared, but not by much. Hearing her cry over the radio he turned around and quickly located her quivering form over by the section hatch. Halting his advance by clumsily catching hold of a fallen beam, he redirected his path and made his way back over to the shaken ZAFT pilot. He wanted to offer her some kind of comfort, but he didn't know what he could do that she wouldn't take offense at.

Opting for the direct approach he slowly landed in front of her, bending his knees into an awkward floating crouch due to his bound feet, "I warned you 'bout that... need a hand back out into the hall or you good now? Not that I'm doing much better then you are at the moment..." He'd put a comforting hand on her shoulder or something but not only would she probably take it as an attack, but it wouldn't really work all that well with his wrists restrained like this. Instead he kept talking, trying the sympathy card instead, "Just take your time..."

Roxanna took a long while before she dared to open her eyes again. It didn't make much difference, she could see most of it in her mind anyway and it wasn't improving with time. The words from the other pilot anchored her a little though, gave her something else to try and focus on. The flare wouldn't last for ever, they were going to die if they didn't do something. They would end up just like these bodies and never get to go home again. The back of the young woman's throat still burned intensely, tears welled at the edges of her scrunched up eyes lids escaping into her helmet. Finally chin wobbling uncontrollably she started to move, getting to her feet. Eyes open but fixed directly ahead Roxanna slowly started to walk forwards. Trying to force the images of what was around them out of her mind, to focus on what they needed to do. Once it was done she could break down all she wanted but here it was going to mean that she died. She didn't want to die.

Heading towards the back she didn't notice the smattering of blood that was now clinging to her pilot suit. Steps shaky and unsure Roxanna made her way to the life support control and took a long look at it. It should be on a different link that everything else with its own backup power, had it run dry? Was it broken in some other way? Pressing a few buttons got no response and the activation light was off. Was she going to have to take this apart as well, could she manage that? For now she was leaving the other pilot alone, her mind concerned with survival and not giving up right now, that and the bodies. Still there, still dead, with their dull flesh and swollen eyes, their faces.
