Spoiler:

It was a mellow Autumn Evening. The leaves were golden brown and falling gently with the breeze, so far it had been a long day with school as normal but it wasn’t going to be ending any time soon. Roxanna stood alone with a gaggle of other students next to the gate, unlike everyone else she was extremely worried about it rather than excited. She’s never been away before, not like this. Just down the road a large coach was parked, the driver smoking a cigarette. It was the class trip to Kyoto, pretty far away and it meant they would be driving until late morning. It was also Roxanna’s first over night trip anywhere. Last year she had convinced herself not to go, and her junior graduation trip, well she wasn’t at school back then because. Just because. So she was understandably more nervous than normal. That made it a small wonder that she was able to stand up at all.

She was dressed in her uniform just like everyone else, black socks and shoes, chequered blue on blue pleated skirt, a black single breasted blazer and a white shirt with a blue chequered bow. Back a bare inch from the schools wall she stood with her shoulders slumped, a bag slung over one shoulder and her satchel clutched in her right hand. Eyes on the ground as she tried to convince herself that this was a good idea. Her hair was as normal the only thing that really made much of an impression, tiny ginger stripes in a mass of flat black hair. Bangs over her forehead, the top of the back pulled together with a clip while the rest hung loosely between her shoulder blades. The voices of the others washed past her, Roxanna focused in her own little world.

When it finally came time to get on board she waited, not wanting to get in anyone’s way. Though she wanted to sit on her own somewhere near the front she didn’t mind really. All she planned on doing the whole way was reading anyway. With slow steps she made her way closer, occasional glances at the people around her, others that seemed to be waiting rather than boarding right away.

Noboru was leant against the school wall idly flicking through a rather informative guide book on there destination. He was far enough away from the gate as to avoid unwanted attention from the section of the class that had taken it upon itself to "Take him down a peg or two." He glanced in the direction of the group and saw that they were forming up to get into the coach. Noboru put away the guide book and picked up his bag, making his way towards the gate.

He spotted Roxanna, the silent and solitary young woman Noboru shared the dubious honour of sharing top marks in the class with. She was hovering near the back of the queue, waiting for everyone else to take there seats before she decided on her own placement. Looks like she's got the right idea, maximise your chance of avoiding unsavoury elements. He took up position not too far from the young woman and shuffled forward as the throng in front of him slowly made its way from chaos into the order of the coaches seating.

Shinoda leaned against the bus, smoking a cigarette with the bus driver. Some people gave him strange looks as they entered the coach, but most didn't pay any attention to him. Smoking on school grounds was a normal activity for Shinoda, and he had so much dirt on the students and faculty, that no one dared challenge him on it.

The driver finished off his cigarette and flicked the remnants into the grass. "I guess it's that time. huh?" Shinoda asked him, exhaling smoke as he talked.

The driver grunted in agreement and left to take his seat. Shinoda stamped his now spent cigarette into the ground and followed suit. As he moved to enter the bus, he noticed two of the school's top overachievers, Roxanna Hollis and Noboru Saita, moving slowly toward the bus as they stared at the people in front of them.

"Guys this isn't rocket science, you move forward like you're actually excited about this lame field trip, get on the bus, plant your ass on a seat, and work on the homework you brought with you."

He brushed passed them and entered the bus, taking a seat in the back. Once seated, he pulled out his portable media player and started listening to music.

Spoiler:

The entire idea of a field trip was one huge drag. Kadeem would have rather spent the following days at home swimming or running. Something of the sort. Hell even doing some writing on the sorry excuse for a novel would have been easier to swallow than this. He'd be spending a majority of the time on a bus packed with others. That in itself was not the problem. What bothered the young man the most would have to be the sitting part. The not doing anything part. The coach was before them and people had already began to pile in and take their seats. Kadeem stood for a brief second in order to kind of give everyone an eyeball and make sure he wouldn't spending the long trip next to someone annoying. He noticed a couple kids hanging back. His eyes darted almost immediately toward Roxanna Hollis, though he did not stare for long. Kadeem had always thought she was rather cute for being one of the 'nerds' or whatever you wanted to call them. All the same, he didn't have the guts to come right out and admit that. So his eyes kept moving and he Shinoda boarding the bus as well. Son of a bitch... I definitely don't want to get stuck next to that asshole. So he too would hang back for a brief moment at least long enough to not get stuck next to the well known drug dealer.

Staring at the forming line, Kadeem reached back to scratch at his ponytail of dreadlocks. His eyes caught instantly with one other boys. The kid was only a year older than him but just as athletically inclined. Graham Blair didn't hold his gaze for long and shuffled onto the transportation method right behind Shinoda, and took the first seat he could find which happened to be right behind the driver and next to a window. Kadeem never really had liked that kid. There wasn't much to like for that matter: he hardly ever spoke to anyone. He seemed like another pompous asshole. Don't want to get stuck next to him either, so.. I guess I'll keep waiting. He stood back with his arms crossed and shot another quick glance at Roxanna. He was shook out of it by the calling of some of his Physical Education buddies, telling him to hurry up and get to the back of the bus with them. He cracked a smile and said, "Yeah be right there," before stepping to catch up to them and board.

Jude let out a groan as he stepped up into the bus, his grey eyes drooped and showing off a clear feeling of annoyance with this entire trip. He’d much rather be at home now, playing the new MMO he had bought the other day, but no, he was being forced to go on this boring school trip. So, with his small plastic bag in hand, Jude stepped down the aisle of the bus and found an empty seat, flopping down on the bench seat and almost opting to stretch out across it, were it not for the sea of students still arriving on-board. Sitting with his head pressed against the window, he had wished he had brought something to do instead of just a sandwich and a can of cola, but in his rush to get out the door this morning, he had not, and he knew he was going to pay for it in the long run. Staring at the familiar school grounds outside, the cold glass of the window chilling his cheek, Jude waited for someone to sit next to him, hoping that it would at least be someone as chatty as he was.

----------------------------------------------

Alistair Judge forced his way through the line-up of students waiting to get on the bus, his cold look discouraging the meeker students and his somewhat mysterious reputation discouraging the ones who may want to get tough with him. He had been held back a year for some form of conduct against the school code of ethics, and to most who knew of him, he was probably the least likely person to get in trouble in any way other than on purpose, though what it was that he did exactly no one knew. Nevertheless, no one said anything as he made his way onto the bus and placed himself next to the known school drug-dealer, Shinoda, without so much as a glance or a word to the man. Pushing his glasses to his face, Alistair pulled a small book from inside his coat and popped it upon to the marked page and began to read. He hadn’t brought much else, just some rice-cakes and bottled water, as well as a ball point pen, just in case. His eyes scanned the pages of the book slowly, every couple of minutes the page flipping over to the next as the boy sat there, waiting for this trip to be over.

Roxanna stiffened as that guy brushed past her. She didn't like him, he was mean. A simplistic outlook but Roxanna wasn't all that capable of dissecting why people did things and didn't really have the willpower to hate someone. All she could really place was that he was mean and she should stay away from him. She tried to stay away from most people though so that was nothing new. Making sure not to get in anyone’s way she slowly slipped onto the coach and moving meekly she took a seat in an empty pair. Slipping herself against the window Roxanna looked out for a few seconds before removing a book from her bag. Moments later she had dived into it, to escape the real world as well as take up her time. A normal activity for her, just be quiet and be forgotten about.

---------------

Fen had settled in next to her best friend and was quite engaged in chatting about the trip. It was very pretty this time of a year and school trips were always fun. Romance, gossip and even the chance to sneak off in a strange city. Not the best mindset for the class president but she was still herself even if she was someone people were meant to look up to.

Noboru wasn't the least bit surprised when Shinoda made a nasty remark to him and Roxanna as he went past. It's scum like you that are the reason I'm hanging back. A smile came to his lips as he said to himself in a tone of dismay loud enough to be heard by those around him. "Homework he says? I'm too busy working on Mr Tokomane's lesson plan for next week." This remark elicited a chuckle from those who were from the small group of classmates he had befriended and glares from those who disliked him. He shook his head as he followed Roxanna onto the coach. It's amazing how much animosity a studious nature can bring you. Noboru spotted Genji, one of his closer friends gesturing to him from the row behind the one Roxanna now occupied. He slipped into the seat as Genji said. "What kept you?" Noboru grabbed a pack of sweets from his bag and passed them to Genji "Fear of being surrounded by the hate brigade" His freind gave him a knowing smile as he passed him back the now open sweet bag and they settled in for the long trip.

Alistair Judge, the new transfer student, took the seat next to Shinoda and proceeded to pull out a book and read. Still listening to music, Shinoda rolled his eyes. He would have preferred to sit by himself - which normally happen, but Alistair wasn't bothering him, so Shinoda decided not to boot him out of the seat. He did close his eyes though, in an effort to block out Judge and everyone else on the bus.

Arms folded and head lowered, Kane couldn’t help but grin at the entertainment in front of him. He was sure being involved in said interactions was different, and he wasn’t sure what kind of different. People outside his immediate family were just too confusing too him, though he didn’t do much of a better job understanding them either. A majority of his life was lived in isolation, with very little actually sticking to him. The things that did would cause others to mark him as deranged. Something that confused him a bit. He was always told to enjoy what he wants too, but he was berated for them nonetheless, much like the two students who were just made fun of. The aggressive one took his seat not too far from Kane, a situation Kane deemed could teach him something. Plus it would possibly put him in favor with others, and their respect could him could easily be used to further himself as they were deemed the smart bunch.

And once their usefulness expires...? Kane questioned himself within the confides of his mind. “Lingering attachments to those who offer nothing is being anchored to the ocean floor..”.Kane mumbled quietly, it was a saying he adopted from when his parents split. He never bothered to look into it, and just took his father’s word. Folding his arms, he leaned over a few seats and nudged the one called Shinoda. He waited for him to take off his earphones before continuing. In his mind he was going over responses over and over. Should a fight break out there seem to be a nice compliment of athletes here... Kane thought. Surely they’d come help me if I looked defenseless. Maybe I can learn something from that too. Kane’s lips curved into a grin.

Spoiler:
Roxanna sat neatly against the window with a chemist book on her lap, eyes flicking through the content at quite a speed.

The chlorate anion is the chlorine atom is in the +5 oxidation state, it is used in a range of products but is most common in herbicides It carries with it the same precautions as other choline chlorine oxides

It wasn't all that important but she wanted to make sure she knew it, it just might come up in a lesson and she wanted to make sure she didn't seem stupid by not knowing it. She lived most of her life making sure it seemed like she knew everything she needed to know, partly as she felt it was expected but it provided her a useful social escape route. Roxanna didn't have to talk to anyone if she was locked in her room with books all around her. It was a slow process that she started to nod off to. First finding it harder to concentrate then slowly her head fell against the clod window with light breaths making her chest move a little. Her book still open in her lap.

Spoiler:

Mayumi Suzugawa (Female Student No. 14) didn't seem to mind the whole bus thing. In fact, she was the first one of her group of friends to board the coach. Sitting in the very back with a window seat, she casually sprawled herself over the back of the seat in front of her, joking with the guy sitting there.

She flipped her electric-blue streaked bangs from her eyes with an easy toss of her head. The volume on the bus was gradually increasing as their voices rose. Guess 'Teach wasn't aboard yet. Oh well. Didn't matter much to Mayumi, who was actually managing to have a good time so far, with her crowd. She spotted Kadeem making his way toward them and waved him over to the mass of kids at the back of the bus. There was 6 of them in their athletic crowd, and they pretty much all knew each other.

"Hey." Was her casual call to him, with a wave. She met his eyes long enough to smile briefly, then she went back to joking around with the guy in front of her.

Gradually, though, as the ride dragged on a bit more, Mayumi found herself getting more and more quiet. She let her gaze pass over the people on the bus for a moment, before giving up the sights of the crowded charter for the outside world. Every car they passed, she could name, and it was almost like a sort of game for her when she got bored... Or some way to pass the time until she could jump in on the next joke.

Noboru talked to Genji while idly flicking through the guide book and occasionally dipping into the packet of sweets they shared. He looked up to find Genji twisted round in his seat, looking towards the back of the bus where the noise level was quite high. Noboru frowned trying to figure out what his friend was up to, until he saw the brightly streaked hair of Mayumi Suzugawa. With a sigh he dropped back into his seat and tapped Genji on the shoulder. "Still entranced by her then? You confessed to her and she turned you down, you tried to impress her and you failed. There's not much more you can do, Mark it up to experience and move on." Genji slumped back in his seat evidently unhappy with Noboru's assessment of his situation. "It's probably true but what gives you the right to dish out romantic advice? It's not like your Mr popular yourself" Noboru chuckled. "Just because I'm discreet doesn't mean I'm not in a relationship. I happen to be on quite friendly terms with a young woman down the street from me that I tutor in..... in...." Suddenly Noboru's vision started to swim and he lost his train of thought, slowly slipping into an unwilling unconscious.

With more hesitance than usual, Azure Du Fleurre had been seated in the back of the coach with her right hand pressed to the window beside her. Each finger pressing to the glass, she seemed to be gazing out almost lost in the glass reflecting her own visage. She had been extra careful this morning to wake up on time for this event, and she had been even more careful in concern to packing for this whole event. Ever since she had been transferred to this school Azure had picked up on the role of loner. No one really spoke to her out of contempt for how unusual her appearance was. Azure looked fairly masculine; the only way people could really tell she was a girl was by either her legal papers which stated she was female, or if they really did stare at her long enough to tell she was female. That was usually fairly difficult to do, since her legal papers were only available to someone who had authority to look at them, and only her family and school proctors had the ability to do that.

Azure had been more than annoyed to know she couldn't fence anymore. She had to cancel most of her tournaments in France to be here, and over here there wasn't much she could do here to make up for the loss of fencing. She usually spent all of her time sitting around and studying. She missed the feeling of adrenaline and the intense emotions scorching her body whenever she knew that a competitors rapier was out to strike her with its tip. Azure hesitantly let her nails rake down the window, not scratching the smooth surface, but she could feel the glass lightly against her fingertips.

She felt very hazy, suddenly. A soft yawn escaped her lips, and she had to fight to keep her eyes open. What is wrong with me?she thought, a frown replacing her prior more emotionless features. Her eyes became partly lidded, and she felt her vision blurr. Something was terribly wrong if she was having trouble even staying up. Within a moment, her eyes slid close, and her hand fell from its position against the window and onto her own lap; her body immediately slumping against the seat, signalling Azure had faded from being conscious and into her subconscious.

--

With her pink hair let lose, Michiko was almost excitedly holding her cellphone in her lap, and texting one friend or another. The school trip was the most exciting thing to happen to her all month. She had been up extra early to fix her hair and her makeup. At once, her phone flashed, and she at once knew that Shizu had texted her back. Michiko quickly opened the text, and smiled at the cocky reply. Her friend hadn't been coming on the trip since she caught the stomach flu. Michiko would have stayed to help, but she knew she had to go on the trip or she'd never forgive herself. Her seat in the middle of the coach was empty, leaving the usually free space beside herself, and she was almost relieved that she had that space. Usually, when people sat beside her, they were fairly rude because of her personality being somewhat difficult to mesh with, or just too nice. Not only that, but she didn't know many of the people here.

She was going to click on the reply button on her pink mobile phone, but some sudden wave of tiredness washed over her. She brought one hand to her mouth and politely yawned, her eyes closing for that moment. "I feel so sleepy," she mumbled. However, she could barely keep her eyes open. Turning to press the left side of her face against the seat, and she hesitantly let her eyes slip closed. Maybe someone would wake her up should they arrive sooner...
